KAMPALA- Alliance for National Transformation’s Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu Gregg, has been nominated as a presidential candidate to take part in the 2021 general election. The electoral commission boss Justice Simon Mugyenyi Byabakama nominated Muntu at 3:32 p.m at Kyambogo University cricket oval.
Like the candidates nominated before him, Muntu is to appoint an official agent who will coordinate his campaign and media program with the Electoral Commission. He is also to submit his campaign schedule to the Commission and also sign a Memorandum of Understanding committing to follow the Electoral program and also adhering to the guidelines geared towards stopping the spread of the coronavirus disease.
“Everything appears to be in order, and…for that matter, I Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi being the Returning Officer, declares that Mugisha Muntu Gregg is a duly nominated candidate in respect of the presidential election 2021…” Byabakama said.
Muntu joins other two Candidates who were already nominated including Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, the ruling National Resistance Movement party candidate, Tumukunde Henry Kakurugu an independent.
Two other candidates who were also slated to be nominated today were turned away after failing to present receipts of the mandatory Ugx 20 Million required of them by the electoral commission. They include Nancy Linda Kalembe and John Katumba.
Five candidates are expected to be nominated tomorrow. They are Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the National Unity Party platform presidential candidate, Patrick Amuriat Oboi from the Forum for Democratic Change, Mwesigye Fred, Mayambala Willy and Kabuleta Joseph Kiiza, all independents.
