MITOOMA- The Mitooma district Woman Member of Parliament Hon Javah Kamateeka Karamaji has revealed that she is still the National Resistance Movement NRM cadre and is still doing all activities though she is not the Flag bearer in the forthcoming elections.
Hon Kamateeka lost the NRM flag to Agasha Juliet Bashisha in the September elections which she alleges were full of irregularities that forced her to bounce back as an independent candidate.
Some of the irregularities she had petitioned to the NRM Tribunal included, intimidation of voters, under age voting, ferrying of voters and alteration of results in Mutara Sub County. However, the petition was dismissed by the tribunal.
Talking to our reporter on Friday October 30th, 2020 at her home in Mitooma Town council, Kamateeka said she is still an NRM member and is ready to look for support for the party Chairman president Museveni.
“We even have ministers who are standing as Independents and we also have such people in parliament, after winning we work together with our party” Kamateeka said.
She told this Online Publication that even the current flag bearer Juliet Agasha Bashisha stood against her as an independent three times after failing in the party primaries.
“She used to bounce back as an independent, no one stopped her and now she is in NRM because she has the flag”, Hon Kamateeka added.
The legislator added that there are many NRM independent leaning MPs in parliament and that she is ready to join them too.
On a further note, Kamateeka revealed that Juliet Bashisha is not a resident of Mitooma as she recently said it out that her home is in Mbarara.
“We need our own people, we cannot hire leaders to come and lead us here in Mitooma”, she added.
When our reporter contacted Juliet Bashisha on the issue, she said she is a resident of Mitooma and that’s why people trusted her with their votes.
“Voters know me, my home and they have a reason as to why they voted for me against her. I am going to defeat her again in the general elections”, Mitooma District Woman MP NRM flag bearer Juliet said.
The race also involves two other candidates who include Independent candidate Kyarampe Rebecca and National Unity Platform’s Kamayonza Constance.
