RUKUNGIRI- The Police in Rukungiri district are investigating the murder of one Asiimwe Maria 60 years, a resident of Musana cell, Kyaruyenje parish, Buhunga sub county.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman, it is alleged that Maria was murdered by her 20-year-old son identified as Byampire Victor.
Byampire returned home drunk on Monday night at about 11:00pm, and attacked his mother whom he happened to stay with, in the same house demanding that she produces money worth seventeen thousand shillings she had received from selling poles of their demolished latrine.
Maate added that the deceased declined to produce the money and promised to comply at a later date. The suspect charged and assaulted her severely using a stick and left her in a critical condition.
Maria later on died shortly after the incident at home.
“This is an issue where the suspect would have amicably sorted with the mother instead of using rude means to punish the elderly parent” Maate told the press.
“We have this morning arrested Byampire and he will help the Police in investigations and once they are complete, he will be charged accordingly,” he added.
The case has since been registered at Rukungiri Central Police Station vide CRB 1768/2020 as investigations continue.
