A group of Artistes who include musicians, comedians, and actors have given president Yoweri Museveni a 21-day ultimatum to open up concerts in the next phase of easing the lockdown. Public gatherings which include, music concerts, drama and comedy shows, sports events, religious and political ceremonies have been barred since March as a measure to combat the spread of COVID-19.
However, with the gradual ease in lockdown, entertainers feel this should be their time to reopen and resume operations since the rest of the economy has been opened; save for religious, political, social, and entertainment gatherings as well as academic institutions which are still closed. Now a section of artistes feel this is enough and want to see their operations reopened henceforth.
They have therefore issued a 21-day ultimatum to the president, warning that if he doesn’t open them, the will resume without his permission.
“….from June 26th to 16th July 21 days, we shall free ourselves if you fail to open…” read part of the poster being championed by the artistes.
Will the president take heed?
Watch the space….
