Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has today Monday 28th, December filed a petition in the civil division of high court challenging the Electoral Commission’s directives to suspend physical campaigns in 12 cities and districts in Uganda.
Lukwago is asking that the matter should be heard urgently during court vacation as well as asking for a court order to trash the commission’s directives.
Electoral Commission announced on Sunday informing candidates and voters about their decision of suspending physical political campaign meetings in districts and cities of Mbarara, Luwero, Kasese, greater Mukono, Masaka, Wakiso, Kabarole, Jinja, Kalungu, Kazo, Tororo, and Kampala.
The commission said that their decision of the fact that the areas were categorized by the Ministry of Health as having a high spread of Covid-19.
