Singer turned political aspirant Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone has again lashed out at the National Unity Platform and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine over what he termed as a brutal disappointment in being denied the party ticket. Chameleone is vying to unseat incumbent Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago in a hotly contested race that features NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragga Dee.
Chameleone hoped to carry the NUP umbrella in the 2021 polls only to be snubbed by the party vetting committee stating that he can’t be recognized without his stage name, is a Catholic among other reasons.
Now Chameleone who has vowed to run as an independent candidate has blamed the NUP and Bobi Wine, saying they persuaded him to join them with promises of giving him the ticket.
The veteran singer voiced out his frustrations while speaking to NTV ahead of the Independence day anniversary.
“It is very disappointing that I didn’t get the NUP card. When Bobi Wine invited me to join the party, I thought that I would have the umbrella over me. I’m still NUP and a bit of DP but what is most important is that I’m still on the side of the people,” stated Chameleone.
