Big Brother Naija 2020 – As many countries continue to struggle to tame the marauding COVID-19 pandemic that has brought the world economies to a standstill, many sports, reality shows and gathering GS are still a no go zone. However, Nigeria has started to release sections of their economy and Big Brother Naija, a hugely followed TV show is preparing for the highly anticipated Season Five.
However, BB Naija has ushered in several reforms to move in the tandem with the Standard Operational Procedures to avert the spread of COVID-19. During a ceremony to update the world about this years event which starts on 19th July, BB Naija organisers revealed that they have made reforms and the show will be half following strict health guidelines.
They also revealed that close to 30,000 people took part in the online auditions, going down in history as the highest audition turns out for Multichoice Nigeria.
Key among the other changes is the fact that this years event will attract a bigger prize money. Done on a winner takes it all basis, the franchise will see the winner walk home with cash and other gifts. Last years winner Mercy Eke walked home 30 Million Naira richer. There are, however, unconfirmed reports that this years winner could take home double last years prize, with a whooping 60million Naira reported to be the ultimate prize.
It was also revealed at the virtual press conference that the housemates for this year’s event are already under quarantine to guarantee that they are all COVID-19 free before entering the house. The Big Brother house is in itself one huge quarantine centre with almost zero contact from outside which guarantees that housemates will be safe as they compete. At the virtual conference, the show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, revealed that all safety precautions will be undertaken to ensure safety of the housemates. As expected, the housemates cannot exit the house until one gets evicted.
