KAMPALA- Ten candidates have been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the next general election.
According to a statement issued by the Electoral Commission 5 of the nominated candidates are Party card holders while 6 others are independent candidates.
The Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Byabakama Mugyenyi Simon, annnounced that Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of National Resistance Movement (NRM), Gen Mugisha Muntu of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of National Unity Platform (NUP), Eng. Patrick Amuriat Oboi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and Norbert Mao of Democratic Party (DP) were nominated as Party Card holders.
Those nominated as Independent Candidates include Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde, Willy Mayambala, John Katumba, Fred Mwesigye, Joseph Kabuleta and the only woman in the race Nancy Kalembe.
Byabakama Mugyenyi described the two day nomination exercise at Kyambogo University playground as a successful event but warned that any candidate found flouting the Election laws will be disqualified.
The 10 candidates will be facing it off with President Museveni who has been in power since 1986 when he toppled the Military Junta of Tito Okello Lutwa who had grabbed power from President Milton Obote in July 1985.
